An Elementary School Counselor is a certified professional who works within a child's total environment to assist him/her in addressing his/her academic, behavioral, emotional and social needs.
An Elementary School Counselor helps to empower children to feel good about themselves and aids them in the process of making positive decisions that lead to healthy and meaningful lives.
An Elementary School Counselor serves children and their families, teachers, administrators and the community.

Serves as a "friendly helper" for ALL students by providing services in the following areas: academic development, personal/social development and career development.
Teaches developmental classroom guidance lessons, which are intended to support and compliment the efforts of parents and classroom teachers.
Provides counseling services to students through individual and small group sessions.
Consults with parents, teachers, administrators, and community agencies and aids in coordinating referrals to outside agencies.


	The School Counselor can provide support services to address a number of issues, including (though certainly not limited to) the following:
Anger Management	Coping Skills	Grief and Loss
Anxiety	Divorce/Changing Families	Self-Esteem
Behavior Modification	Friendship Skills	Social Skills

Referral for counseling may be done by the parent, the teacher, or through self-referral.
Individual counseling is available to students on a short term or intermittent basis.
At different times during the year small support groups are offered to students with common needs or concerns.
Parents with questions or concerns regarding their child are encouraged to contact the counselor.
